It seems like anything that Konami seems to do with anything, and anyone even remotely associated with horror games, immediately gets linked to endless rumors about a new Silent Hill game in the works. Although it was completely unassociated with Konami, a small developer by the name of Blue Box Studios and its Twitter account became the source of fascination after people made leaps of faith to link various elements of the Silent Hill series to the Twitter account – the thought being it was one of Hideo Kojima’s elaborate Trojan horse studios, similar to PT and “7780s Studios”. They later had to come out and deflect those rumors, but a new vessel for Silent Hill fans’ hopes has emerged. Konami has announced that they have entered into a partnership with Bloober Team, the developer behind some pretty well-regarded horror games, such as the Layers of Fear series, Blair Witch, and the recently-released The Medium – a game that became a sales success within a matter of days.
The “strategic cooperation agreement” signed between the two companies will exchange “development of selected products and the exchange of know-how” has added fuel to the Silent Hill rumor mill fire (we have a lot of those stories on The Nerd Stash), despite Konami saying that this agreement isn’t even finalized yet. Previously, Silent Hill rumors centered around Konami outsourcing the development of an upcoming Silent Hill project to another Japanese studio – Bloober Team is Polish. Another separate Silent Hill rumor came from legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka (who interestingly worked with Bloober Team on The Medium), who teased that his project will be announced this summer.
Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team president, said in a statement on their website:
