It’s no secret that MGS fans are quite a bit skeptical about Konami’s upcoming Metal Gear Survive, so it’s giving players a chance to sort out their feelings ahead of a time with a beta which will last from Jan. 18 to 21.
According to the announcement, the Metal Gear Survive beta will focus solely on the game’s co-op, allowing players to get a glimpse of three of the game’s missions across two maps ahead of launch. In addition, those who participate in the beta will earn in-game bonuses in the form of a “Fox Hound” name plate, Metal Gear REX accessory, and bandanna accessory before the full game launches the following month.
Metal Gear Survive was initially supposed to arrive this year, but Konami announced at E3 2017 that the game would be delayed to early 2018 due to needing more polish.
Metal Gear Survive represents the first Metal Gear title to be released since series creator Hideo Kojima parted ways with Konami. Unlike every other entry in the series which deals with espionage and reside on the same timeline, Survive takes place in an alternate reality after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. After getting pulled through a wormhole, players will not only have to hunt for food, water and other resources, but also have to fight off dangerous threats — such as zombies.
Metal Gear Survive will arrive for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam on Feb. 20, 21 and 22 in North America, Japan and Europe, respectively.
