Hot on the tail of last night’s announcement of a ‘special’ partnership to develop a new game under the Xbox banner, Kojima Productions has reassured fans that its relationship with Sony remains unchanged.

In a series of tweets published today, the Hideo Kojima-helmed studio stressed that it is first and foremost an independent creative studio that will pursue possibilities for games, music, or movies on platforms that evolve and leverage new technology.

The tweets reassure fans that Kojima Productions maintains a ‘very good partnership with Sony PlayStation as well.’

After the announcement of our partnership with Microsoft using the cloud technology, many people have asked us about our collaboration with SIE. Please be assured that we continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation® as well.

Kojima Productions Teams Up with Microsoft

During last night’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, Hideo Kojima appeared in a short clip to reveal a new partnership with Xbox Game Studios. The Death Stranding creator explained that by leveraging Microsoft’s cloud-based technology, Kojima Productions aims ‘to create a video game for Xbox like no one has ever experienced or seen before.’

The Metal Gear Solid creator said:

Given the freshness of the announcement and rumors of the development of Death Stranding 2 being well underway, it’s unlikely we’ll see Kojima’s innovative new game anytime soon. Could it be linked to Overdose, an allegedly Kojima-led horror title that leaked last week?
