Nintendo has become accustomed to the monthly game subscription pipeline. While other platforms like Xbox Game Pass release a multitude of new games at once, Nintendo takes a different approach. Releasing a few classic and obscure games a few months apart, Nintendo Switch Online has significant content gaps. Yet the releases, albeit few and far between, can be genuinely amazing titles from Nintendo’s library catalog of games. Even more so when the library is being currently expanded the most is the most recent addition of Nintendo 64 games. Being the first foray into full three-dimensional titles, the games of the era mark a transition period. Such is the case with Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, which arguably paved the way to great 3D Kirby experiences today. Releasing on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, subscribers will finally have access to Kirby 64 in just a week.

When Does Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Release On Nintendo Switch Online?

Kirby 64 is one of the more creative and inventive Kirby games. While most took players through a 2D space, now the environments are full 3D models. Alongside that, the polygon count has massively upgraded to better fit the presentation. The attempt looks almost archaic next to a modern title like Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It’s easy to see how the influence of the open-world could have been derived from the short experience HAL Laboratory had while making the game. There are many ways to play Kirby 64, thanks to past re-releases. The switch release will mark the first time the title is playable again with its original controller because of the wireless N64 controller. Releasing on May 20th, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards finally launches on Nintendo Switch Online.
