The Kickstarter-funded Kingdom Come: Deliverance has had a bumpy development cycle so far with numerous delays, and now the game has suffered yet another one. The developer has revealed that the game will not be releasing this year at all, being bumped back to 2017.
The game was originally set to launch by the end of 2015, before being delayed to a Summer 2016 slot. It was then revealed that the game would be delayed into the last quarter of 2016 so that the game could launch across all platforms simultaneously, but now we have yet another setback.
If it’s any consolation, the developers say that a definitive release date will be revealed sometime between E3 and Gamescom. However, considering how shaky they’ve been with release windows I wouldn’t exactly mark whatever date they give on my calendar.
“A first-person, open world, realistic RPG that will take you to Medieval Europe in a time of great upheaval and strife,” reads the game’s description. “A humble, young blacksmith loses everything to war. As he tries to fulfill the dying wish of his father, Fate drags him into the thick of a conspiracy to save a kidnapped king and stop a bloody conflict. You will wander the world, fighting as a knight, lurking in the shadows as a rogue, or using the bard’s charm to persuade people to your cause. You will dive deep into a sweeping, epic, nonlinear story from Daniel Vávra, an award-winning designer from the Mafia series. Our unique, first-person combat system lets you wield sword or bow in both one-on-one skirmishes and large-scale battles. All of this – and more – brought to life beautifully with next-gen visuals delivered via Cryengine.”
The Kickstarter campaign for Kingdom Come: Deliverance began in 2014, where it raised over $1,000,000 with the help of over 35,000 backers.
