It is certainly not surprising when Kim Kardashian spends nearly $200k on an iconic piece of jewelry. Kim bought Princess Diana’s necklace at an auction on Wednesday, adding it to her jewelry collection. Find out more about the jewelry below.

Kim Kardashian Spends $200k On Princess Diana’s Necklace

Kim Kardashian sure knows how to splurge and what to splurge on. On January 18, the SKIMS founder purchased Princess Diana’s diamond and amethyst encrusted statement cross necklace during a Sotheby’s auction.

The Attalah Cross sold for $197,453 and features a bold pattern of Asscher cut amethysts arranged in a cross. The jewel was worn by the late royal in 1987 to a charity gala in London, England, along with a purple embellished velvet dress. The Garrard jewelry company reportedly loaned the piece to Princess Diana at the time.

Kim bought Princess Diana’s necklace her ex-husband Kanye West reportedly married Yeezy employee Bianca Censori in January. Ye and Kim finalized their divorce in November, and the rapper married his new bride in a private ceremony.

Kim Kardashian Likes To Collect Iconic Pieces

The Dash co-founder has a knack for collecting pricey pieces of fashion history. She notably wore Marilyn Monroe’s crystal-covered “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress at the Met Gala in May 2022. She also purchased jewelry worn by screen goddess Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy Onassis, among others.

Kim’s jewelry collection is also famous for being a target for robbers. In 2016, she fell victim to an organized heist at a Paris hotel, leaving her traumatized.

On October 3, 2016, robbers attacked the mom of four at gunpoint on October 3, 2016, amid the Paris Fashion Week. Five men dressed as police officers stole $11 million worth of jewelry in the high-profile heist.

In 2017, Kim recounted the experience to Ellen DeGeneres and tearfully said she felt she was “meant” to have the experience.

“I know this sounds crazy, but I know that was meant to happen to me,” she told her host at the time. The socialite explained that she was formerly “materialistic” and “flashy,” so the incident taught her a lesson. Hopefully, the KUWTK star kept her word and is more careful now.
