Just ahead of the release of A Plague Tale: Requiem, a PlayStation Blog was released featuring an interview with director Kevin Choteau. During the interview, Choteau talks about what they’re changing for the sequel in order to improve it from A Plague Tale: Innocence.

Interview with Kevin Choteau

During the interview, Choteau says that they wanted to fix everything they did wrong with the first game. One of the biggest changes they’re making is adding many more open areas for A Plague Tale: Requiem. This was done to give players much more freedom, allowing them to progress in the game any way they’d like.

He also talked about taking advantage of the PS5 graphical capabilities during the PlayStation Blog interview. They use this to improve the rats in the game, adding a huge amount compared to the original game, and having them evolve. They are now able to climb and are much smarter and more aggressive, making them more dangerous than before.

Another focus during the interview with Choteau was the protagonist Amicia. A big part of the story will be how having to become a warrior to survive is starting to take a toll on her. As she is still young and not fully a warrior, she is still very vulnerable. There will also be a focus on Hugo and how both characters want to avoid using his powers.

The PlayStation Blog interview reveals that A Plague Tale: Requiem will not have a big villain this time. It will instead focus on Amicia and Hugo trying to find their place in a world that always rejects them.

Finally, when asked about a potential sequel, Choteau says, “I think, for now, it’s the end. But the door is never closed, and we’ll see the player reception.” This means that the game will probably have a conclusive ending, but a sequel could be possible if players are really positive about it.
