After winning in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has been slammed by Kathy Griffin, making it very clear she is on Heard’s side. Movieweb reports that Griffin appeared on Just Ask the Question with Brian Karem and said that Depp looked like “a big, orange, fat, bloated booze bag. He looks like Donald Trump with a ponytail.” Griffin has stated, “I am friends with Amber Heard. I completely believe her… It’s actually really disturbing to me as a woman and a lifelong feminist.” She has also criticized Kate Moss and Winona Ryder, who denied Heard’s claims that Depp had abused them. “I cannot speak for these women,” Griffin said, “but I have to tell you, I wonder if they just changed their tune because nobody wants to get Amber Heard-ed.”

Kathy Griffin Is No Stranger to Controversy

Kathy Griffin is trending on Twitter, with many people angry at her for defending “an abuser” (referring to Heard). Of course, Griffin is no stranger to controversy and backlash. In 2007, she had her Emmy acceptance speech cut from the broadcast after making a derogatory statement about Jesus. And more recently, her career crashed and burned when she posted a video holding up a bloodied replica of former President Donald Trump’s head. Griffin apologized for the video but recanted the apology later as she blamed Trump for ruining her career and costing her friendships.

Other celebrities have shared Griffin’s support of Amber Heard, though they are in a small minority. Meghan McCain, David Krumholtz, Howard Stern, Julia Fox, and Rachel Riley are among Heard’s supporters. On an episode of The View, Joy Behar stated that while she didn’t pay attention to the circus of a trial, “I do know that Donald (Trump) Jr. and Megan Kelly and a few others think that Johnny Depp was right. So take what you can from that.”
