The second Kaguya-sama: Love is War live-action film has ranked #1 in its opening week. The film (Kaguya-sama was Kokurasetai-Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunosen) film sold about 195,000 tickets. The film earned 252 million yen (or about $2.29 million). While the week is still not over, this was all earned in the first three days of premiering. Saturday and Sunday are estimated for higher sales and ticket purchases. The guess is about 124,500 more tickets and about 164 million more yen ( about $1.49 million).
The first live-action film of the duo Kaguya-sama: Love is War sold about 1.8 million tickets. At the same time, the film earned somewhere around 2.2 billion yen (about $20.04 million).
The sequel to the live-action film opened on August 20 for VIP access, and August 23 for regular tickets. The film spans over the events of the original manga’s “Sports Festival and Cultural Festival” arc. The second season is also this arc. Yu Ishigami and Tsubame Koyasu are the main focuses of the film, rather than the two main characters.
Other big films for this week include The Dragon and the Freckled Princess, My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, and Tokyo Revengers. All of these movies have shifted down in their respected rankings for the week due to the opening of Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai-Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunosen. However, they still made more than enough in terms of their budgets and ticket sales.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War: The Hidden Top Romance
The Kaguya-sama: Love is War manga has its own anime adaptation, which premiered in January 2019. Aniplex of America is streaming the 12 episode anime on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and FunimationNow. The company has also released the anime on Blu-ray in February of 2020.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai-Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunosen premiered its anime adaptation in April 2020. Funimation streamed the anime weekly as it aired in Japan. They also dubbed both seasons of the anime, and plan to dub the third one.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War tells the story of Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya. While they appear to be the perfect couple on the outside, they both harbor an embarrassing secret. Although the couple likes each other, both are too proud to confess their love and come up with schemes to make the other confess.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War’s third season will premiere at an unspecified date. There is, however, an original video animation (OVA). The shipping date for this is May 19.
