Kadokawa Games announced that they have canceled development on the Metal Max: Wild West game for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The Metal Max: Wild West game was set to release this year as the latest entry in the Metal Max franchise. However, the company has stopped all production for the title due to “current development circumstances.” There are also other unspecified reasons for the cancellation of the game. Kadokawa Games originally announced the title in 2019 as a sequel to Metal Max Xeno Reborn. Despite this, the company delayed the game from its originally planned 2020 release to 2021, to 2022, to finally this cancellation. The developers have been silent about the game since May 2021.

Most recently, PQube began streaming a launch trailer on Friday for Metal Max Xeno Reborn. Additionally, the game is a remake of the Metal Max Xeno game. The game was released the same day in English for PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam. This follows the game’s release in Japan for PS4 and Switch in September 2020.

Metal Max: Wild West: Canceled, But it is Not the End

NIS America released the Metal Max Xeno game for PS4 in North America and Europe in September 2018. Kadokawa Games released the PS4 and PlayStation Vita game in Japan in April 2018.

The first Metal Max game debuted in 1991. The post-apocalyptic role-player was then followed by Metal Max 2 in 1993.  Then, Atlus released another franchise installment in North America in 2006. However, Metal Max Xeno was the first in the series to launch overseas. The story for the game is non-linear and relies on turn-based vehicle combat.

While this news might be disappointing for fans, it is not the last Metal Max entry. A spinoff titled Metal Dogs is currently out in Japan, with another game titled Metal Saga: Flames of Rebellion in development. Both of these titles are available on PS4 and Switch.

As of now, Metal Max Xeno: Reborn is currently available on the Nintendo Switch.
