Billboard Japan revealed that Eve’s Jujutsu Kaisen opening “Kaikai Kitan” has reached over 300 million plays since its release. This is after 78 weeks after the song’s initial release.

”Kaikai Kitan”debuted digitally on October 3rd, 2020. 22 weeks after its release, it had already collected 100 million playbacks worldwide (March 10th, 2021). After 42 weeks, the ”Kaikai Kitan” song had gained a total of 200 million streams as of July 28th, 2021.

Most recently, the series has received a second season premiering in 2023. This announcement was made by Junya Enoki (the voice actor for Yuji Itadorii) during an event for the television anime. Like the first season, studio MAPPA will most likely be animating the second. It is also unknown if there will be another song by Eve like “Kaikai Kitan” for the Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 opening.

Jujutsu KKaisen’s Opening: A Strong Song for a Strong Show

The Jujutsu Kaisen anime premiered in October 2020 with 24 episodes. Crunchyroll initially streamed the anime outside of Asia, but now it is available on HBO Max. Since its release, the anime has seen the rise of a large and dedicated fanbase. With the anime, the manga has seen a large boom in sales, reaching over six million copies in circulation worldwide.

Even more recently, the movie surrounding the Jujutsu Kaisen has seen a huge success worldwide. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has sold over 9.5 million tickets and has earned a total of 13.32 billion yen since it opened in Japan. In the U.S, the Jujutsu Kaisen movie has earned a long-standing spot at number 2 at the box office, right behind The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. The film is currently the 19th highest-earning film of all time in Japan and the highest-earning for 2021.

The Jujutsu Kaisen anime is based on Gege Akutami’sanga of the same name. Akutakmi launched the manga in Shueisha’seekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. Viz Media published the first three chapters in English alongside the Japanese release as a part of the JumpStart Initiative. However, this then changed when Viz switched to a new Shonen Jump model in 2018. Shueisha is also publishing the manga on its new MANGA Plus service.
