The news that Johnny Depp is recording an album post-Amber Heard trial has all the world talking. 2022 has truly turned the tables for Depp, who had struggled since the op-ed that caused the trial. Many people are lauding him and embracing his turn to the public eye. Depp’s star is the highest it’s ever been, from concerts to cologne commercials and billboards. And if this record captures his pain of the last few years, safe to say it will rock out.

The Return of the Depp

As many know, Depp has been seen in London with Jeff Beck over the last couple of weeks. The two have been doing live gigs side by side, and now the duo is dropping a new record together called 18. It will be an album of cover songs. For anyone who has seen footage of them jamming, they have started doing these covers live, and the audience loves them.

From the Seattle Times:

The album contains covers of The Velvet Underground’s “Venus In Furs,” the Everly Brothers’ ballad “Let It Be Me,” and Marvin Gaye’s soul classic “What’s Going On.” There also are versions of Davy Spillane’s “Midnight Walker” and two songs from the Beach Boys’ masterpiece, “Pet Sounds” — “Caroline, No” and “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder).”

There are also two original songs Depp contributed. One is called This Is a Song for Hedy Lamarr, which is the first single.

The fact that Johnny Depp is recording an album with long-time collaborator and friend Jeff Beck has his fans chomping at the bit. The truth is, post-Amber Heard trial, it’s nice to see Johnny Depp getting his life back. 18 drops on July 15th and is named after how making the record made them both feel 18 again.
