Possibly one of the most influential first-person shooters, DOOM II is often heralded as one of the best classic PC games. The title meshed an amazing level design with a whole new engine capable of producing sprawling level design. The influence spans to some of the best modern FPS titles today. While the difficulty can certainly match some of the hardest players can face in DOOM II, there’s more than enough to enjoy. Yet, even newcomers and novices can enjoy it with the difficulty scaling provided. The game has seen many re-releases and modern ports for all systems. Yet, lead designer John Romero announced today an update to the game with a special level players can donate to download. As a show of support to the people of Ukraine, the new DOOM II level is 5 Euros available and now available at John Romero’s website.

To support the people of Ukraine and the humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, I’m releasing a new DOOM II level for a donation of €5. 100% of the proceeds go toward these agencies. Thank you. https://t.co/1meRjC0IJZ pic.twitter.com/p0VbjdIofP

Where Can You Play John Romero’s DOOM II Level?

While the offering is only a single level, the show of support in donations goes a long way. Especially from the past designs by John Romero, this new level is huge and takes full advantage of that space. Utilizing great enemy placement and sprawling level design, there’s plenty to enjoy for a small fee of 5 dollars. Despite only being available to users of DOOM II on PC, it’s still a genuinely interesting playthrough. Aside from Sigil in 2019, the level is his first standalone level release in the DOOM modding scene. That being said, the level is the first DOOM level from John Romero in 28 years. While fans of the series’ more recent entries might be skeptical, the level is certainly worth the support.
