John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place franchise has spawned two movies and is poised for a third installment. Only this time it won’t be Krasinski directing. As has been reported, Jeff Nicols will be directing and writing A Quiet Place Part III. Nicols’ past films include Mud and Midnight Special which is a quasi-comic book movie; a grounded and dramatic change of pace if you want something that’s not as blaring as most comic book movies.

As CinemaBlend is reporting, Krasinksi never planned on A Quiet Place having any sequels, let alone it becoming a franchise, which would typically be worrisome, but with the success that this newly minted franchise has seen, Paramount was more than thrilled to greenlight a sequel to the unplanned sequel. Although it is being touted as a spin-off to A Quiet Place Part II, so we shall see what route is taken this time around. Emily Blunt, Krasinki’s wife and lead in both A Quiet Place films, has mentioned that there are multiple routes this story can take, and now that it is affirmed as a spin-off, that just gives the writers (John Krasinksi should be a part of the writing process) a lot more playground to play on.

Horror Genre Still Thriving

I feel that starting back in 2010, Insidious gave the horror genre a much needed pick me up, which then paved the way for other such horror movies like: The Conjuring, The Babadook, The Witch, It Follows, Hereditary, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Midsommar, Hereditary, Annihilation, etc. A Quiet Place is a continuation; horror movies that aren’t only made to scare you, but are now made with more of a focus on compelling characters and some more internal fears. The main reason that Hereditary and Midsommar work so freakin’ well is that they deal with internal horrors as opposed to the more traditional tropes that we have seen in the past years like kids and ghosts, slashers (Freddy, Meyers, etc.), and demonic possessions.

Regardless, things should be quite intriguing moving into the third installment. Are you excited about A Quiet Place: Part III, and what are your thoughts on John Krasinski no longer directing? Let us know!
