Jerome Flynn has been officially announced as the latest addition to 1923 on Paramount+. Best known for his appearances on Game of Thrones and John Wick: Chapter 3, Flynn will be joining series leads Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren along with fellow cast members Brandon Sklenar and Luke Grimes in the prequel to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone.
First premiering in 2018, Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, headed by the widowed John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and consisting of his three children, Kayce (Luke Grimes), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Jamie Dutton (Wes Bently) as the family navigates the trials of owning the largest ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. The series, whose fifth season is due to premiere in November 2022, sees the family through the struggles of ranch ownership as they contend with the national parks, developers, and the Indian Reservation that surround the ranch on the outside, as well as the familial drama that plagues the family on the inside.
1923, taking place nearly a century before the events of Yellowstone, will feature a new generation of Duttons through the early 20th century when, according to Deadline, “pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain West and the Duttons who call it home.” Harrison Ford has already been cast in the series as family patriarch Jacob Dutton, with Helen Mirren as his wife Cara Dutton, James Badge Dale (Iron Man 3) as John Dutton Sr., Marley Shelton (Manhunt) as John’s wife Emma Dutton, and Brandon Sklenar (The Offer) as Spencer Dutton, John’s brother.
Jerome Flynn Added to ‘1923’
Jerome Flynn will be joining 1923 as Banner Creighton, the leader of the local sheep men who Variety describes as “a hard-headed Scottish brogue.” Prior to joining 1923, some of Flynn’s previous roles include Bronn on HBO’s Game of Thrones, where he made appearances between 2011 and 2019, and Hector in series 3 of Black Mirror (2016). In addition, Jerome Flynn appeared as Berrada in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), Detective Inspector Bennet Drake in Ripper Street (2012), and Detective Constable Tom McCabe (1999).
Created and executive produced by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Paramount Plus’ 1923 is currently in production with MTV Entertainment Studios (Jackass Forever), 101 Studios (Mayor of Kingstown), and Bosque Ranch Productions (1883). John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Ben Richardson join Taylor Sheridan as producers for the upcoming series.
1923, starring Jerome Flynn, is currently slated to release on Paramount+ in December 2022, following the November release of Yellowstone season 5.
