The Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings has announced that it will hit theaters on July 16, 2023. Directed by The Office producer and writer Gene Stupnitsky, it is setting itself up as “an R-rated comedy with heart.” John Phillips (Dirty Grandpa) will co-write with Stupnitsky.

The film was up for grabs as studios and streaming platforms placed bids for the rights. With Jennifer Lawrence leading the comedy, it certainly caught the attention of executives in Hollywood wanting to get the film for themselves. Ultimately, as reported by Deadline last year, the film was won over by Sony Pictures. It will be produced by Alex Saks, Marc Provissiero, Naomi Odenkirk, Lawrence, and Justine Polsky. Phillips serves as an executive producer.

Jennifer Lawrence Leads Comedy ‘No Hard Feelings,’ Coming Next Summer

Stupnitsky and Phillips have had experience with raunchy movies. Phillips wrote the Robert de Niro and Zac Efron movie Dirty Grandpa in 2016. In 2019, Stupnitsky directed and co-wrote Good Boys in 2019 with writer Lee Eisenberg (The Office). The filmmaker also did Bad Teacher with Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake. Adding that experience with the acting chops of Jennifer Lawrence in the comedy, it is off to a good start when it comes to attached talent.

Comedy for Jennifer Lawrence is one part of the many types of films she has starred in over the years. Blowing up in the early 2010s between Winter’s Bone, X-Men: First Class, and The Hunger Games, her career skyrocketed from there. She is also a frequent collaborator with director David O. Russell as the two worked together on American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and Joy. She was nominated at the Academy Awards for Winter’s Bone, American Hustle, and Joy. She won her Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, in which she starred opposite Bradley Cooper, who was also nominated for his role in the film.
