After the 2018 hit film Meg, Warner Bros. is coming out with a sequel called Meg 2: The Trench. Jason Statham that played the brooding shark-killer in the first movie, will return for the sequel. If you haven’t seen the first movie, it’s basically a megalodon from the Mariana trench wreaking havoc on an underwater research facility. Jason Statham, who plays Jonas Taylor and Suyin, played by Li Bingbing, work together to kill the giant shark. Sienna Guillory, who played Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil film franchise, will join in for the Warner Bros. sequel. Skyler Samuels and Sergio Peris-Mencheta are also part of the cast for Meg 2: The Trench. Cliff Curtis, Sophia Cai, and Page Kennedy will reprise their roles from the first movie. Ben Wheatley will direct the second installment, which does not yet have an official plot summary.

Will Jason Statham’s Sequel Take A Bite Out of the Box Office Like the First Film?

The 2018 Meg made over $500 million. It may have had a big budget, but it heavily resembled Syfy Channel’s original movies with its wildly unrealistic stunts. It’s your run-of-the-mill action movie with some interesting one-liners and hard stares from Jason Statham. He is no stranger to outrageous action from starring in films like Crank, the Transporter trilogy, and The Mechanic, to name a few. Not to say that these action movies haven’t paid off for the actor. After all, he is part of The Expendables movies and the Fast & Furious film franchise. His role as the tough shark killer only adds to his action filmography. Meg 2: The Trench will surely blow audiences out of the water since it will most definitely try to outdo the action seen in the first movie.

There is no set release date for Meg 2: The Trench, but Meg fans can be comforted by the fact that it’s happening at all.
