Creators of the upcoming sci-fi-comedy series Demascus on AMC have announced that Janet Hubert, Caleb Eberhardt, and Shakira Ja’nai Paye will be joining the show’s cast as series regulars. Hubert, Eberhardt, and Paye will be starring opposite Okieriete Onaodowan (Hamilton), who will star in Demascus’ title role.
Demascus, set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ next year, will feature Onaodowan as Demascus, a 33-year-old Black man who goes on a journey of self-discovery using new reality-shifting technology to experience multiple versions of his life at once. Deadline describes the series as “a comedic, genre-fluid, coming-of-age story with a reality-bending premise” that takes special care to address the gaps between Black male perspectives and seeks to answer the biggest question anyone can ask: “Who am I?”

Janet Hubert, star of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Reunion, will star in Demascus as Dr. Bonnetville, the quick-witted psychologist at the head of the reality-bending technology. Dr. Bonnetville is also described as apathetic but possessing a smart mouth and a unique blend of traits that help patients through the mind-bending technology she’s pioneered.
Caleb Eberhardt (Judas and the Black Messiah) will be joining the cast as Redd, Demascus’ best friend and a “reformed reprobate,” per Deadline, who’s taking his first steps into true adulthood and dragging Demascus right along with him.
Shakira Ja’nai Paye will star as Naomi, a performer who draws Demascus’s attention and captures his heart after a single chance meeting. Variety describes Naomi as “a haunting missed connection” and Demascus’ biggest “what if?”
With the addition of Hubert, Eberhardt, and Paye, the regular cast of AMC’s Demascus has been marked as complete. Demascus creator Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm will serve as showrunner alongside Kirk Moore (Marvel’s Runaways). Mark Johnson (Better Call Saul) will serve as executive producer for Gran Via Productions, while Myki Bajaj of the same company produces.
Demascus will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2023.
