Yellowstone actor Wes Bentley has been struggling while portraying his character of Jamie Dutton. The actor has been open about the struggles he has faced related to a drug addiction past, which has probably helped him play his role but has also taken a toll on him as well. He compared it to the sadness he has to portray playing Jamie in the Yellowstone series. Bentley said, “I’ve always dealt with my sadness with things like comedy, or humor, or drugs at one point, or trying to just ignore it and finding another way out of it…but you can’t do that when you’re portraying someone’s sadness.”
It’s Hard To Be Happy When You’re Supposed To Play Sad
Wes Bentley talked about his struggles with playing the character of Jamie Dutton in Yellowstone with the New York Times. There he went into detail about what it is like playing the role of a character that is so deep in that dark emotions. He says he tries to leave the baggage on set from his character, but playing Jamie in the cowboy series has affected him off-camera. Bentley added, “Jamie’s sadness permeates my life, even though I’m not sad.”
Jamie has had a lot happen to him throughout his time on the same where he killed his biological father to protect the Dutton family, and them now using that information to stand against him. He is alone and outcasted when he is trying to be loyal to the family…a family that just doesn’t seem to want him around. Wes Bentley’s struggles in the past mirror some parts of Jamie, which probably allows him even more, to deliver the moving acting he does in Yellowstone. The fifth season of Yellowstone will be returning some point later in 2023, probably closer to the fall months. The second part of the fifth season will only have six episodes.
