Since Daniel Craig has retired from playing 007, the door has been left open for what’s next for the franchise. James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli spoke to Deadline, revealing that there will be a “reinvention” of the character. She also said that the next movie is two years away from production. She also confirmed that there is no script or anyone in line to play the character.

James Bond Producer on Reinventing the Character

What is interesting to note is that discussions amongst fans have brought up having a woman take on the role after Craig. However, the James Bond producer has stuck to her previous statements that the character will remain a man. Last year, Broccoli spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about who will play him. She said she was open to any race or ethnicity taking on the role, as long as they are British.

Craig ended his tenure with No Time to Die, making it his fifth film as the agent. The films grossed $3.9 billion worldwide, with 2012’s Skyfall earning the most with $1.1 billion. That amount of money puts a high bar to reach for the next series to run.
