World of Warcraft is one of the most iconic names in gaming, basically pioneering the MMO genre into what it is now. It has long been one of Blizzard’s most popular and most profitable games. However, Microsoft has announced they are acquiring Activision/Blizzard, so some players may be wondering if World of Warcraft is coming to Gamepass.

That answer is unknown, but the Microsoft press release states, “The acquisition also bolsters Microsoft’s Game Pass portfolio with plans to launch Activision Blizzard games into Game Pass.” It is unclear what games of Blizzard will be coming to Gamepass at this moment.

Other MMOs are available on Gamepass, which doesn’t push World of Warcraft coming to Gamepass out of the realm of possibility. This would be huge, especially if the MMO were to come to Xbox. If this were to happen, Microsoft and Blizzard could still require a paid subscription in addition to Gamepass or do away with it.

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this question yet. Microsoft will announce at some point when enough i’s have been dotted and t’s crossed, but for now, no one knows exactly what Blizzard games are coming to Gamepass. Should any news be announced, we will update this post!

Announcements of Microsoft’s planned acquisition of Blizzard and Activision came on Jan. 18, 2022, when Microsoft’s CEO Phil Spenser released a statement. It details how the company plans to incorporate the games of Blizzard and Activision into their library and Gamepass. The acquisition is estimated to be finalized in 2023.

This announcement also comes close to the time that numerous scandals, accusations, and lawsuits have been leveled at Activision/Blizzard. Another aspect of this acquisition could be to deal with these issues and restore a positive image to the companies.
