In most Action Role-Playing games, when you die, something is lost and must be retrieved or is just lost for good. In The Ascent, is there a penalty for dying?

There are zero penalties or consequences for dying. None whatsoever. You lose no EXP, no Ucred (the game’s currency). Ultimately, the only thing that is lost is your pride. But you are rewarded with an awesome skull exploding animation on the continue screen.

It’s actually a boon to die because the game will autosave, and all enemies will respawn, allowing for more experience gains.

Due to how the game’s difficulty works because there are multiple zones that are not shown that may house stronger leveled enemies. So you could be killing LVL 5 enemies, then walk into a new place and come across LVL ’20s and die instantly. It wouldn’t be fair if the game made you suffer a penalty when you thought you were in the same area.

There is no way of knowing if a place will be of high enemy levels or not. You can use stealth by crouching everywhere, but this will take so long to do, you’ll be bored before you know it.
