In-game advertisements prompts Rockstar response.
GTA fans that are patiently awaiting news about Grand Theft Auto 6 have recently gotten something to be excited about. A message has been popping up in the game that has seemingly outed the release date for GTA VI in Grand Theft Auto Online and that it’s coming in 2019.
While you’d think this would be a reliable source of information, being that it’s in the game, it turns out that it’s not. The Grand Theft Auto VI release date notification is in fact a hoax that has been put on by modders of the game.
According to Rockstar Support, “This is a hoax made with the use of mods, and not an official message or statement from Rockstar Games.”
Talk about deep fakes, this is one that has certainly gotten GTA fans all worked up for nothing. The message itself looked legit. Users reported seeing the message on different platforms, and with different styles that seemed like an advertisement where you could pre-order the game.
Unfortunately, it looks like we’re going to need to wait a little (or a lot) longer for an official word from Rockstar on the release of GTA VI. With one big release already on the horizon for later this year in Red Dead Redemption 2 there’s still plenty to be excited for in terms of games from the developer.
