Ghost Recon Breakpoint is on the way. You will be stepping into the role of a titular Ghost, trying to find out what is going on with all the weird robots and former colleagues who are trying to murder you. And because crossplay is becoming a much sought after feature in modern games, people are wondering if Ghost Recon Breakpoint will support crossplay. The answer is slightly more complicated than a simple yes or no.
Is Ghost Recon Breakpoint Crossplay?
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is not going to launch with crossplay, this much we know for sure. It will not be a day one feature in the game, so if you plan on buying it, and hope to play with friends on other platforms, then you might want to rethink those plans.
I would, however, like to point you towards an interview that Eric Couzian, the creative director on Ghost Recon Breakpoint, did with MMORPG about the game. One of the topics that were discussed is crossplay, and if we can expect to see the feature in the game.
As you can see, Eric Couzian didn’t want to commit one way or the other overly, but crossplay certainly seems to be something that they want to bring to the game with a future update.
We have big plans for post-launch. So there will be plenty of Episodes, a new Class, everything. Of all the subjects, this one, cross-play, is part of them. So you will get news later on this.
Crossplay is a great feature for gamers, as it means increased populations that they get to play with, giving titles longer lives, even on platforms where they might not sell the best, or die off quickly if a high percentage of the players move on to something else. With crossplay, the people still playing on that platform can always find match-made activities to take part in, and can always play with friends on other platforms.
From a developer point of view, I can see why it might not be seen as a required launch day feature, as populations on all platforms should be more than healthy enough to sustain the game for a while.
There is an uptick in the number of gamers who want to see crossplay supported in their favorite titles, and there has even been a lot of ground covered by Sony, Microsoft, and other parties to try and make crossplay viable. Hopefully, this continues into the next generation and crossplay becomes a regular feature in many games.
