Deltarune is the next game from Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale. Chapter 1 of Deltarune was released back in 2018 and Chapter 2 of Deltarune is getting a surprise release today, nearly three years after the first chapter was released.
Fox assures Undertale fans that “if you completed Undertale, the ending and world are as you left it” as well “if everyone was happy there, the people in the Undertale world will still be happy.” This vague answer seems to convey the idea that Deltarune is not a sequel.
Fox later goes on to say that he doesn’t know what kind of game he would call Deltarune, just that it is a game you can play after completing Undertale. As seen in Deltrarune Chapter 1 though, characters from Undertale have made an appearance in some form or another. So even if Deltarune isn’t a sequel, it is still worth it to play Undertale.
