Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the latest entry in Activision’s ever-popular military FPS series, is now available worldwide, and players are eager to get their hands on it. But since most games are now priced at $70, some people are now turning to subscription services to get the most bang for their buck. Most gamers are already familiar with how buddy-buddy Activision and Sony are; PlayStation platforms often got exclusive rewards like the Oni skin, and the COD: Modern Warfare 2 beta didn’t even require a PlayStation Plus subscription to be played. As such, their relationship does beg the question, is COD: Modern Warfare 2 available as a free game on PlayStation Plus or even Microsoft’s Game Pass?

Is COD: Modern Warfare 2 on PlayStation Plus or Game Pass?

Unfortunately, the answer is no for those who subscribe to either subscription and are looking to play the game without spending additional money. COD: Modern Warfare 2 is unavailable as part of the Game Pass or PlayStation Plus free games lineup. This is not surprising, considering up until this second, neither subscription service currently offers any Call of Duty games. It seems Activision is still quite confident with the series’ selling points and will keep selling them for a full-retail price and does not plan to attach it to any subscription service.

However, keep in mind that Microsoft is currently in the process of acquiring Activision and all of its subsidiaries. So one day, future Call of Duty titles might end up playable through Game Pass. Recently, Microsoft also claimed that Sony and Activision’s relationship “restricts” the Battle.net owner from putting any Call of Duty games on Game Pass for “a number of years.” Reports also indicate that their deals might last until 2024. So yeah, I suggest that you not hold your breath on it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Battle.net.
