GDC 2020 Delay Interferes

With global concerns for health issuing outbreaks and paranoia, many of the established and scheduled conferences regarding big media such as video games, the movie industry, and general global concern, have come into question as to whether or not they’ll make an upcoming appearance.

A new indie studio by the name of Cybernetic Walrus was fully prepared to launch a Kickstarter campaign at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC). Last month, however, they published a postponed announcement for their event, affecting all who were scheduled to attend, including Cybernetic Walrus. Though not openly stated on their website, it’s believed to be cautious due to the wake of the Coronavirus, affecting many companies and events across all forms of media.

Because of this, the Belgium-based company’s plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign -that would follow after the conference – was ultimately canceled, with a recent tweet from the game’s page sometime after the GDC announcement:

Man, are our in game characters sad that @Official_GDC got postponed. It was their moment to shine as we were revealing our game to press with a Kickstarter to follow up. Sadly we will now have to cancel that Kickstarter#madewithunity #indiegame #COVID19 #indiedev #GDC2020 pic.twitter.com/e24dyWDn2p

A sophomore title where deckbuilding is met with excellent strategic thinking, Rise of Humanity is the second main project from the developers behind Antigravitator. The game was received with mixed reviews on both the Steam store and Metacritic, with not much exposure to be experienced by the public eye. It still allowed Cybernetic to be recognized with their attention to detail and confidence to dive into a different set of genres.

The sci-fi racing title will be a different experience compared to the new roguelike project of Rise of Humanity. The deck-based hexagonal battleground where you face off against the opposing Artificial Intelligence foes will implement a procedurally-generated journey, so no encounter and corner will be the same. More can be explored on their social media connections and Discord server through their website.
