James Gunn reinvigorated the DCEU with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. His take on the team-up movie that was poorly received in 2016 introduced some new and familiar characters. Alongside Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn, we got new faces like John Cena as Peacemaker and Idris Elba as the man who shot Superman, Bloodsport. In an interview with Variety, the actor revealed he wants to reprise his role to have a proper fight with the iconic hero and not just have it as a bit of dialogue giving background to why his character was imprisoned.

“I would definitely like to tell a Superman story,” Idris Elba said. “Bloodsport versus Superman. It needs to happen.”

In the film, when introduced to the character, audiences were told how he sent Clark Kent to the ICU with a kryptonite bullet. This was only to explain why he was locked up and placed as a member of the Suicide Squad. As James Gunn develops more projects for DC, like Peacemaker season 2, anything is possible.

Idris Elba has an idea for Bloodsport to fight Superman

DC is currently shaken and unstable of what’s known to come. Plenty of confirmed projects seem safe, but the cancellation of Batgirl and the eventual merging of HBO Max and Discovery+ for next year has many wondering what’s safe and what’s to come in the future. As Peacemaker moves forward with its next season and other films are moving forward, it seems that security could lead to Idris Elba getting his Superman movie.

The biggest issue for Idris Elba suiting up as Bloodsport to shoot Superman again is the lack of a Man of Steel. Henry Cavill played the character for multiple movies, but it doesn’t look like he will return. A Black iteration of the character is being developed, so maybe that will be the one that the Luther actor fights. Even Gunn doesn’t know who the character is when he had him as a shadowy, blurry cameo in Peacemaker.
