Reinstalling iCarly
As Paramount Plus continues to reel in a wide range of TV shows, today marks the newest order to their library: the return of iCarly.
2020 has been an expansive year for adaptation after the horrendous invasion of the COVID-19 virus. Consequently, everyone was forced to stay home, which led to a rise in popularity for multiple streaming services. Netflix recently broke their viewer record with The Queen’s Gambit, HBO MAX acquired a massive movie intake for the upcoming year, and now Paramount Plus is bringing back iCarly for a revival.
iCarly originally ran from 2007-2012 on Nickelodeon for 97 episodes. The show was an instant hit upon its pilot episode, and it further grew to stardom as one of the network’s most-watched programs. The show’s titular character, played by Miranda Cosgrove, was a household name, and the show was an engaging mixture of young teen comedy and modern technology.
Jerry Trainor played her older and quirkier brother, Spencer; Nathan Kress played her best friend and obsessive techie guy, Freddie. Along with them and Miranda, they’re set to reprise their roles, with Jay Kogen and Ali Schouten signing on to develop the series. As of now, however, there is no word on Jennette McCurdy or Noah Munck coming back to reprise Sam and Gibby. As the show develops, perhaps more news will be in-store the closer Paramount Plus prepares to stream the new version of the show.
With the entertaining supplement of iCarly‘s return, Paramount Plus will continue to deliver an ever-growing collection of shows and films. More content from BET, Comedy Central, CBS, MTV, and Nickelodeon are on the horizon, with some original programming currently in development. The streaming service has already announced a reboot of VH1’s Behind the Music documentary series, as well as a scripted drama surrounding the making of The Godfather.
