Call of Duty’s, Gears of War, Resistance, Battlefield, Killzone & Halo are just a few to be listed of the numerous titles filling up the shelves in game stores worldwide. Why is that ? This is the question I’m asking and answering right here.

Have you ever noticed that between Microsoft & Sony (SCEE & S.O.E) the leaders of our industry claim that the consoles they produce, the Xbox 360 & PS3, are the two best next generation gaming consoles ever developed.   Claims that they are so powerful that the possibilities for games to be released are practically endless?  Then can someone tell me why are these 2 massive and brilliant companies only making First Person Shooters that are primarily Run & Gun war games? They are all practically the same on both consoles. I know from personal experience, I have both consoles and a few more on top of that.

Peter Moore of EA Sports recently likened the industry to a “Burning Oil Platform” and noted that the traditional games business is currently in danger. He believes it needs to adapt to emerging platforms. The basic message is they need to change there ways or they’re going to go under. Now I’m not a big fan of sports unless it involves moving your thumbs around alot, but this man has the right idea! It’s just a shame the company he deals with is a major sports game retailer.

I want a game that’s an RPG (Role-Playing Game) style game, that’s completely free-roam with hundreds of skills and abilities to choose from. Something like Fallout 3 or The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion but without the tiny map! I want it huge like a full planet with seasons, animals & monsters that breed and hibernate. I don’t want dungeons that have the same old tile sets repeated one after the other so the details look stupid, nor do I want the same dungeon over and over just shaped a bit  differently. I want it to have the OPTION of playing multiplayer and yes! to being able to kick people from your game! I know this game would take a few years to produce but think of the possibilities! Even if it’s only to capitalise from it, Thousands of DLC’s could be released for such a game. This is my idea at least a little bit over board but they claim it can be done so why not challenge their abilities!

Is it really going to be that hard for them to do? They’ve already covered the type of game i want, they just broke it up and spread throughout meny other games such as, Final Fantasy XIII fair enough the game itself wasn’t all that great but the graphics were breath taking. Fallout 3 & The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The exploration on these games made the whole thing feel that bit more like an adventure. Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Although the game was buggy it’s ability to choose whether to play co-op or PVP made the difference. Star Ocean International: A new hope, Single player but you are never at a loss for things to create or skills to raise. These are but a few games that contain exactly what is needed to make my game a reality.

Perhaps these are just my personal feelings and tastes, but the point I’m making is that we are told time & time again that these types of games can be produced yet we keep getting fobbed off with yet another hyped up FPS ‘Run & Gun’ war game because they are cheap and easy to produce. How long until the games become inseparable by description? Are you really satisfied with the same games over and over, with the exact same price tag ? Just a different name. We need to start putting ideas forward to the game developers and the companies that are funding them, So this is what I’m doing now. Please do the same.
