We are in award season, whether that means an award show is premiering soon or we are getting movies that are hoping to gain awards after release. The big question is who will host the next Oscars, and Hugh Jackman is open to it, as he revealed to Variety in a feature. He did it in 2009, but if he were to take the job again, he has one rule, which is not to be working.

“Yeah,” Hugh Jackman simply answered about taking on the host role for the Oscars. “My only rule is I don’t want to be working while I’m doing it.”

Not working is hard for the Australian actor. He is consistently doing Broadway work, and he revealed in the Variety interview he is getting so jacked for Deadpool 3 that he is tearing his costumes for the stage. He is also getting award buzz for The Son with Anthony Hopkins and Laura Dern. Then there is the Baz Luhrmann Hulu series with Nicole Kidman, Faraway Downs.

Hugh Jackman will host the Oscars if he isn’t working

Other contenders have been looked at for the job. Most notably was Chris Rock, but he declined to do the job after the slap from Will Smith. He joked that it would be like asking Nicole Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.” For now, nobody is in place to take the gig.

Hugh Jackman was the host of the 2009 Oscars. He has also emceed the Tony Awards four times. For now, he is busy training for his return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 for 2024. He is performing his Broadway show The Music Man, which will end its run on January 1, 2023.

When it comes to accepting awards, the Wolverine actor was nominated for an Academy Award for Les Misérables and is a two-time Tony winner.
