Huawei quite recently released another smartphone in the affordable flagship price bracket which offers the best hardware specifications from the company at a rather affordable price. The smartphone in question, the Huawei Nova 3, is priced at just Rs. 34,999 and packs in Huawei’s flagship Kirin 970 SoC, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Powering the device is a 3,750mAh battery and if you’ve been wondering about the device’s battery performance then you’ve come to the right place. Here, we’ll not only test the device’s battery performance but we’ll also take a look at how long the device takes to charge, which will give you a clear idea of how it measures up to its main competitors – the OnePlus 6 and the ZenFone 5Z. As mentioned earlier, the Huawei Nova 3 packs in a 3,750mAh battery which is slightly larger than its competition – the OnePlus 6 and ZenFone 5Z. To charge the battery, it comes with a 9V/2A charging brick and a USB Type-A to Type-C cable. While the output of the charging brick is comparable to the chargers that follow Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 standard, the device took a fairly long amount of time to charge in our testing.
Since the Nova 3 packs in a larger 3,750mAh battery, it lasts quite a bit longer than the OnePlus 6 and the ZenFone 5Z, both of which have a 3,300mAh battery. Huawei’s software optimizations also play a major role in increasing the battery life of the device, as the device barely loses any charge when it’s not in use.
Battery Life with Light Usage
While testing the battery life of the Huawei Nova 3 with light usage, I started off the day with a full 100 percent charge and throughout the day I just used the phone some light web browsing, casual gaming, calls, social media and a bit of photography. With that kind of usage, the Nova 3 lasted me just over two days. Mind you, the Nova 3 delivered this kind of battery life without even turning on EMUI’s battery-saving measures, which means that it can go even longer in case the power saver is turned on.
Next, I tested the Huawei Nova 3’s battery with heavy usage, including playing several games of PUBG Mobile, taking a lot of pictures and videos and keeping the phone on mobile data at all times. With that kind of extensive usage, the Nova 3 lasted me just over 18 hours with a screen on time of over five and a half hours. At then end of the test, I was still left with about 5 percent charge, with the phone telling me that it had an estimated 45 minutes of charge remaining.
Huawei Nova 3 Battery Test: Charges Slow But Lasts Fairly Long
In conclusion, the Huawei Nova 3’s battery life is just top notch and it might as well have the best battery life in its price segment. However, it’s charging speeds aren’t at par with that of the OnePlus 6 and the ZenFone 5Z, and since it has a larger battery it takes really long to charge the device completely. So, in case you’re looking for a device that offers great battery life, the Nova 3 (Rs. 34,999) might be your best bet, but do remember that the other devices will allow you to quickly top up the battery whenever in need, but you won’t be able to do that with the Nova 3.
